The Story

About The Blog

It's funny how you live your whole life thinking and believing one thing, and then a curve ball smacks you in the head and everything changes. 2012 changed a lot of things for me; mainly my ability to accept the status quo of my life and coast into oblivion without acknowledging the paradigm shift that was taking place beneath me (like a tectonic plate translocating the continent under my feet). It took me a few minutes to regain my footing, to say the least. So began my digging and delving into the person I always wanted to know. She's in there. You've been invited on the journey. Buckle up, buttercup.

Soul Photo Life

A picture is worth a 1,000 words...iPhone photography is worth about...eh, 28-30 or so. Photo credits will be given where due. Enjoy...

Sometimes it’s hard to express how you feel in writing. Sometimes you just want to feel it and not express it. Then there are times when you know it’s important to get it out, even if no one ever reads it. This is one of those times.

There’s a fine line between youth an...

Proverbs 27:15-16

An endless drip, drip, drip, from a leaky faucet and the words of a cranky, nagging wife have the same effect. Can you stop the north wind from blowing or grasp a handful of oil? That’s easier than to stop her from complaining.

Have you ever faced somet...

I’ve been doing some thinking lately about this whole International Women’s Day. It’s great—don’t get me wrong—and a wonderful way to celebrate the fairer sex, the crowning achievement of God’s creation. But I do wonder if we haven’t been rather rough on the fellas. I’...

"Do or do not. There is no try."

These wise words, spoken by Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back, inspired me years ago.

Have you ever noticed that when the marriage pledge is repeated, "Do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband, and do you promise to love him,...

I’m busy. I have important stuff to do. Every day, I am reminded of the schedule before me, the expectations and needs of others, the very certain and deliberate manner in which life consumes my time and energy. I admit, there are days when I fully resent it all; I wan...

This was actually written by me in April of 2017. I'm only just now able to publish it, for whatever reason. I hope it helps someone to understand the reality of their grief and realize that they will make it through it (but probably never get over it).

I haven’t writte...

It’s been a while since I’ve written much. I admit, I’ve been busy, but not busy in the way that most people think of busy-ness. I haven’t been swamped with work (although work and ministry are a constant presence in my world), nor have I been overwhelmed with meetings...

I served as worship pastor at my church for 17 years, turning my position over to the capable hands of my oldest son, Locke, this past year. It was an easy transition, knowing we share a very similar thought process and point of view regarding worship and music in the...

Metanoia: (n.) the journey of changing one’s mind, heart, self or way of life.

Change is an inevitable fact of life. Change can be good or bad, depending on how you look at it. You get $50 in the mail from an unexpected source, and the next day you have to buy a new tir...

I used to buy myself a pretty journal every year. I guess it reminded me as an adult of getting school supplies at the beginning of the school year—a clean slate with fresh- lined white paper, ready to receive all the knowledge and creativity my brain was about to gene...
